Affiliate Membership

Application Requirements

National Young Academies (NYAs) seeking Affiliate Membership of the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) are invited to submit an application demonstrating their institutional legitimacy, governance structure, activities, and contribution to national and regional science priorities.

The application should include the following:

  1. Formal Letter of Application
    A formal letter expressing the NYA’s interest in becoming an Affiliate Member of NASAC and outlining its motivation for joining the Network.
  2. Constitution or Governance Framework
    A copy of the NYA’s constitution, statutes, or other formal governance framework outlining its mandate, structure, membership, leadership, and decision-making arrangements.
  3. Recent Activities or Impact Report
    The NYA’s most recent activities or impact report, covering activities undertaken within the past two years, highlighting key achievements, programmes, partnerships, and contributions to science and innovation.
  4. Letter of Support from a NASAC Full Member Academy
    A formal letter of support from a senior national science academy that is a Full Member of NASAC, endorsing the NYA’s application for Affiliate Membership.
  5. Supporting Documentation
    Any additional documentation that demonstrates the NYA’s institutional structure, legitimacy, activities, achievements, partnerships, and contributions to national, continental, or regional science priorities.

Review and Acceptance Process

Applications for NASAC Affiliate Membership will undergo a two-stage review and approval process:

Stage 1: Review by the NASAC Board

The NASAC Board will conduct an initial review of each application to assess the NYA’s compliance with the established Affiliate Membership criteria and requirements.

Following the review, the Board will identify and recommend eligible NYAs for consideration by the NASAC General Assembly.

Stage 2: Decision by the NASAC General Assembly

The NASAC General Assembly will consider the recommendations of the NASAC Board and make the final decision on the admission of new Affiliate Members.

NYAs whose applications are approved will be formally admitted and inducted as NASAC Affiliate Members.
